Now considered one of JW’s fossil’s [hardly, but I like to
exaggerate], I thought it was about time I took on the challenge of picking my
MyDrive favourites. It’s a hard choice as we have an abundance of great stuff
but I certainly have my go-to tracks. You may see a recurring theme in the tone
of some of the pieces and that’s because the tracks I’ve chosen are the ones I
feel invested in. So when a brief comes in asking for some epic, emotive
orchestral music, for example, you won’t just find me staring at my screen,
flicking between options. No, you will find me staring at my screen, tears
rolling down my face with my heart torn apart. Right, here goes:

Eon [NT002] - Ninja Tracks
This track is timeless and it makes me overwhelmingly proud
to represent Ninja Tracks. It’s a slow burner, and what starts off as a
threatening piece ends up being one of the most gorgeous, emotive and triumphant
soundtracks for cinematic productions. It’s got it all – short strings, big
blasts and an epic back end. If ever there were a track that could take you on
a journey in under four minutes, it is 'Eon'.
Drink It Down [JW2238] - JW Media Music
Ah, this appeals to my inner melancholy self. I absolutely
love how this song builds and although it may initially seem sad, the build
begins to add a sense of hope. Although I can’t say I am an avid pop fan, I
appreciate the beauty of orchestral pop as it were, and this song fits the bill
perfectly. If you are looking for a track that is sentimental and reflective
but has room for a teeny weeny bit of optimism then you ought to have a listen
to ‘Drink It Down’ [Instrumental version is just as beautiful].
Airglow [BBX190] - Beatbox
Airglow is such a strong contender for helping to highlight
anthemic moments. The solo piano intro is perfect for those moments that lead
up to revelations and moments of pride. Soaring indie rock chorus’ perfect for
sports, award ceremonies and all things heart-warming.
Before
The Dawn [GXW010] - Grooveworx
Grooveworx are one of our newest catalogues and oh my, don’t
they do trailer music so seamlessly? Another slow burner, ‘Before The Dawn’ begins
with soulful male vocals over piano and light strings and builds into a
powerful and heroic orchestral ending. Most recent trailer briefs that have
arrived into our very happy to help hands have required vocals so this is
definitely a go-to.
Air Stream [ALL034] - All Sorts Music
Okay, so this is a pivotal point in the playlist, for one
song only mind you. Bright, dreamy electronica. I really like chillwave as
although quite a contemporary genre, there is a dreamy retro pop sound to it.
Perfect for relaxing summer holidays and to just to let your mind wander. There
is something of a haze that surrounds ‘Air Stream’ so pop your headphones on
and embrace that haze for a few minutes of your day.
Magma [THH06] - The Hit House
I lied. We are back to big orchestral. However, ‘Magma’ is
dramatic from start to finish and has a real dark determination. This track
will work wonders for dark drama with the sole intention of imposing threat.
Think battle, think war, think revenge. Relentless!
River Of Life [JW2223] - JW Media Music
What I like about ‘River Of Life’ is it is such a
multi-faceted track. There are so many emotions and tones throughout, all
beautifully conveyed through piano and strings. The delicate piano intro
conjures images of flowing meadows and morning dew but when the strings become
a little more dramatic, the track takes a slightly more serious turn and we end
with a very sombre solo cello.
Cannonball
Mountain [FG048] - Figure & Groove
I feel as though I don’t have as much to say on ‘Cannonball
Mountain’ other than it is an ultimate feel-good indie rock song. Great for
sports, youth programming and anything that requires a ton of energy.
Confident
Swagger [ALL041] - All Sorts Music
This could be the most aptly named track across all of our
catalogues. Self – assured blues rock. It doesn’t build the whole way through
but it’s cool, it’s southern and with that attitude, it surely has to be first
pick for any whiskey advert?! Or perhaps some kind of fashion ad starring some
heart throb in his cowboy hat? The track is hot, man.
Gold Digger [JW2243] - JW Media Music
From one of JW’s newest releases ‘Pop Drum and Bass’, ‘Gold
Digger’ came into our lives at the right time. Energy, emotion, a little sass –
perfect for summer, perfect for promos of the summer sporting events and just
all round good vibes. Oh, and that soulful male vocal… dayummm.
